Formula Student is an international construction competition for students.
But it is not only about a race, it is about much more!
The team of students is assigned to build a prototype vehicle of a single-seated racecar by a fictitious production company. The base for the construction and assembly is a given contract document including requirements concerning technical specifications, emissions and active/passive safety. The patronage for the open-wheeler is assumed to be a hobby race car driver, who demands the car to be reliable, easy to handle as well as to have good driving characteristics in regard to acceleration and brake effort.
The market value is increased by additional factors such as esthetics, comfort and the usage of common standard parts. The fictitious production company plans a small-scale production of 1,000 pieces a year. The entire amount of money for one vehicle is not allowed to exceed 25,000 Dollar. Within a year the team of students has to design, construct and assembly the desired prototype model in interdisciplinary teamwork. In doing so, they can prove their knowledge and creativity by developing a competitive and technical challenging race car that satisfies the requirements of the extensive English regulations.
